Ramana, a Scottish Woman, Carol and What Is Left of Me…

On Ramana Rajgopaul’s blog, there is an entry in Ramana’s Musings which is linked here, which you simply must read.  It is sent in by a Scottish woman:

Apples and Wine.

Women are like apples on trees. The best ones are at the top of the tree. Most men don’t want to reach for the good ones because they are afraid of falling and getting hurt. Instead, they sometimes take the apples from the ground that are not so good, but easy. The apples at the top think something is wrong with them, when in reality, they are amazing. They just have to wait for the right man to come along, the one who is brave enough to climb all the way to the top of the tree.

Now men……..men are like fine wine. They begin as grapes, and it is up to women to stomp the s**t out of them until they turn into something acceptable to have dinner with.

There is far too much truth in this and, like I told Ramana, we men pay a price.  My wife, Carol, still looks young and quite lovely:

But, note the stern visage.  She is getting ready to carry out the second part of the above truth.  It is a painful process, but more importantly, you must see the result:

The stomping process is quite painful and creates tremendous pressure within the man.  We do become more pliable and – I guess we should use a euphemism here – civilized.

But, this practice must be stopped!  American men are becoming an endangered species.  Oh, the humanity…

Note: body double used for this demonstration so that I would still be able to type.  For old time’s sake, Carol agreed to stomp her brother instead.

  1. Carol, you certainly look like you are from the top of the Apple tree. Are you also by any chance of Scottish origin?

Conrad, my heart bleeds for you American men. Just imagine what happens to men who live here. There are no Apple trees except up in the Himalayas, and the most ubiquitous trees are coconut palms! The fruit of the coconut falls down from a great height and can be lethal, if you happen to stand below it with a hope of catching one instead of climbing up to fetch one!

Ramana, you are looking at pretty much pure Portuguese there! Her father was from the Azores and her mother…

Now here is another blog post, I can see. Her mother was literally left on a church doorstep at the age of about 6 weeks with no note nor any way to trace. We vary her ancestry as the mood strikes us. The predominant joke is that she is Chinese! She looks like she also could be Protuguese or perhaps Italian.

She would actually like to get one of the DNA tests. Carol and I are aware that they are not quite as accurate in tracing ancestry as the purveyors would have you believe, but whatever they say would give her some piece of mind. The ornery part of me hopes they find she is Chinese!

As for Carol, she took me into the kitchen the first time we got together intentionally – oh, there’s another post, how we actually met – and she told me she thought I was cute. I walked back out into the dining room, told my roommate that it was tough luck for him, that she liked me – and we have been together ever since. After 26 years of marriage, it is looking like a good idea to both of us!

I tell you truly, Ramana, if it took climbing that tree to find this woman, I would be climbing right now!

Second follow up, Ramana. A wee bit of irony is that I am 3/8 Irish and Scots Irish.

  4. What a story! I hope that you will come true with those possible posts.

Was your mother in law adopted? She may find my latest guest post interesting.

I have just got that proverbial light bulb going off over my head for post! Watch our for it.

  5. And all these years I thought I was almost all German with a wee bit of Irish. Which one of us did they find on the church doorstep, Bro? I don’t know if I dare make this request, but please tell me more about my heritage ;-) !

That’s pretty much the proportion that both Mom and Dad said comes from each side. Remember that the Gleasons are Irish and I think the Crows have a lot of Irish and Scots Irish. Obviously, the Richters and the Hakes are Germans. Mom says we also have a little French and a little Swiss blood – just enough to add class, like seasoning in a fine dish!

Bottom line: you and I are mutts! Stark, raving mutts, I tell ya.

  7. My response to this Post I accidently put in Zen Plumber Going Green.

Bikehikebabe: I’ve raised that Zen plumber to square up on these issues, too. More importantly, his mother has. He knows there is no back seat in our partnership.

  9. Bikehikebabe: I’m gonna take some of the credit for Conrad’s enlightened attitude. I stomped him the whole time we were growing up . . . right, Bro? I said, “Right, Bro? I SAID, “RIGHT, BRO”???????????????????????

    Yes. Right. :-\

  11. “We do become more pliable and – I guess we should use a euphemism here – civilized.”

One size doesn’t fit all. The summer before I went away to college I was blessed by a sudden thought: “They’ll never civilize me!” I married my husband because he wasn’t civilized and would never try to civilize me. Why would I want to change him? :)

Yeah, well, this whole post is a lie, LOL. That picture isn’t even of me, it really is Carol’s brother.

Respecting each other is plenty! Here’s to my “Wild” friends!
