Wines For You From Napa Valley

Actually, I have no idea if any of these wines are from the Napa Valley.  Why so rude, you might ask.  Well, for one, these wines are funny.  For two, I have something else on my mind.

You will not believe this, but CNN has chosen two people out of infinity to try an experiment tomorrow.  I am one of the two.  Woo, woo!!

Here is the experiment.  Another guy and I have been chosen to be on the CNN Newsroom anchored by Rick Sanchez from 12:00 – 1:00 PM PDT (3:00 – 4:00PM EDT) tomorrow, 4/1/2009.  Now, let’s not have any comments about this happening on April Fools Day – unless you really want to.  We will be “conversing” on Skype while Rick interviews a guy about the legalization of marijuana.  Rick and the guy will be talking and referring to what we have to say while our conversation “stream” will be constantly displayed on the screen.

The universe has thrown me a really weird curve ball.  And I intend to take a good cut at it!  Hope some of you can tune in tomorrow.

In the meantime, some of those wine bottles still aren’t empty.  You might want to give them a try!  The Dog Tail and Toasted Head are pretty good, Smoking Loon right behind followed closely by 3 Blind Moose.  Barefoot is pretty common out here…but, it ain’t bad!  Now, Silver Oak Cabernet is to give up at least a car for (and it is sooo Napa Valley), but it’s no where near as funny.

  1. Conrad,

Congratulations. I would have loved to have seen/heard the interview but, I can not figure out when it happened or is yet to happen etc? There is no date on your posts and it is already well into the 1st of April – 1255 pm so your post must have been around early morning of the same date.

Be that as it may, I hope that you will be able to send a link so that I can see/hear it later at leisure.

Rummuser–don’t believe it –Conrad is full of wine pee! The wine has gone to his “bladder”! By the way Conrad, thanks for saving some wine for us!

  3. I am reading this on April Fools day….

I have often heard of ‘the air of the dog’ to cure a hang over and I have seen a whiskey called ‘Sheep’s Dip’ but never tried it.

If it is true about the TV have fun with the live Skyping. In Ireland we have a group who live blog/twitter events like BarCamps (great, if I am unable to attend) and TV programmes.

  4. “Wine pee”???? The fact that it is April Fools Day would make me wonder also but Conman was talking about Rick Sanchez earlier! Yeah – more info – we want to see it! Heck, I can tell everyone that I knew you befoe you were a big star!!!

Actually, unlikely as it sounds, this Skype commenting is not an April Fools joke. Ramana, you are 12 1/2 hours ahead, so this will be starting 12:30 AM on April 2nd for you. The show starts in approx. 4 1/2 hrs.

The other guy and I are excited.

  6. Good Lord, that is time for gentle people like me to be fast asleep Conrad.

I am one of those ‘early to bed and early to rise birds’. Have no choice in the matter. I am still the househusband.

Do tape it or whatever, or just get a link please. Don’t disappoint an ardent fan.

  7. Sorry, we don’t have cable so can’t get CNN. Like rummuser I hope we can get it via the web.

Ramana, Jean and anyone else who can’t get it via TV, I don’t see where you can get a feed. I am checking with the producer to see what the copywrite situation is with the chat stream and whether I can reproduce any of it on the blog.

Stay tuned – if you can! The other guy and I are pretty excited.

  9. Thanks for the link. How did you happen to get chosen?

Through Twitter I had started in January contributing a comment here and there about something on the show. Pretty soon, a lot of the things I would contribute would make it to the air. Then they decided to put together an experimental group and by invitation asked some of us to use Skype for a chat stream during the show. After a couple of weeks of that, they invited two of us, yesterday, to do it live on the air and they gave us a topic.

Last night, I started gathering information for my topic – only to have that changed at show time and that they just wanted us to wing it. So…we did! It wasn’t too bad for a couple of guys who didn’t actually know each other to type their fingers to the bone for an hour plus.

Anyway, they thought it was a success and are going to do more of it. But, they want just a few more people, because two people can’t contribute quickly enough to keep the messages scrolling. I imagine they will go for five or six.

  11. Conrad!
Congrats on your CNN Chat Stream feature! That’s awesome.

Also, your Napa trip and the wine ’snapshot’ drew my attention. I’m a wine fan! The Dog Tail label is intriguing, and I’ve enjoyed Barefoot brand before.

I’m thinking a bottle of Cabernet for the weekend may just be in order. Thanks for the inspiration.

Hoping you had a fantastic time in Napa!

Jacqui, thanks for dropping by. We always have a good time in Napa, although a bit less touristy and a bit more pedestrian than most. We have been there so many times that we just visit with Carol’s mother and step-dad now. We very seldom go out to the wineries unless someone else is with us.

When we do go – it’s great! There are some very nice wines to be had up there. Of course, there’s some very nice coin to leave on the counter, too!

By the way, for everyone expecting the chat to be on marijuana legalization – so were we expecting that! They changed the topic that morning from marijuana to “react to what you see! We are covering the G20 summit.” That’s why you see Carl and me wandering around a little.
